June peonies and random thoughts...

This chipped and stained, vintage transferware teapot without a lid, is my favourite flower vessel...

Well, it has been a busy time, gardening, gardening and more gardening...the weeds have been appearing faster than one can keep on top of them...and the abundance of rainfall has created a lush, green landscape....

The peony Sarah Bernhardt, managed to keep her glorious head up during the scattered thunderstorms and high winds this week, to provide some luscious blooms...

....even for some bouquets for the wedding shoot in the garden...

I wanted to use only materials from the garden for the shoot.....and serendipity prevailed when a thunderstorm brought down beautiful lichen covered branches to use in this arrangement in a moss urn....

The beautiful and very fragrant peony Duchesse de Nemours was arranged in small moss cones.....a lovely alternative to a corsage for mothers or grandmothers of the bride and groom...this peony introduced a century and a half ago, is still the most popular due to it's delicious scent...

A vintage gown, circa 1940 was used in the shoot....the beautiful satin and tulle details were perfect partners for the soft, romantic feel I wanted to impart to the project for my website.....I couldn't have picked a worse day for the shoot, it was hot and humid, windy ....really windy and threatening severe thunderstorms all day....

I will show the completed shoot as soon as I receive the images from the photographer, the lovely, dedicated, passionate Carla...everyone involved was truly committed to bringing a magical vision to light....

The best month for weddings is of course June, when Nature's beauty is at it's peak.....here you can see the front portico of the house framed by blossoms of deutzia and kawartzia....two old fashioned blooming shrubs....

image.jpg

The roses in the foreground are just budding now....

image.jpg

......and this morning, Fantin Latour, a very fragrant antique rose which has been in my garden for twenty years...

image.jpg

.....you can see from the buds, there will be more to come.....

image.jpg

......and the Japanese primrose, has found it's way to the back steps.....it can be very invasive in a garden bed, but mine has sent it's underground runners to the perfect places it seems....

image.jpg

It appears the hostas are enjoying all the rain and are enormous so far....in the middle of the photo you can see Angel Tears, a hosta I planted in the garden in memory of my Mom....the year she passed away.

As you can see it has been a full month, of gardening and wedding projects....the laundry room has also been the perfect place to arrange flowers, with the new, deep sink and faucet accommodating a variety of projects for me....and yes, yesterday I ironed twelve shirts as well....

image.jpg

.......and the lower terrace, where part of the shoot took place, needs some rearranging!!

Pardon my random thoughts today, and the random posts.......life marches on and we keep in time to the music.....I wish you a beautiful June.....Saturday, is the beginning of the summer solstice....I am waiting for the first firefly to appear......N.xo
